I drew a lot out of this dream Peter has in the police station:
He expects a lecture from Nathan and to his relief, doesn't get it.
He expects sympathy.
He shares his hopes, fears, and thoughts. Nathan sits next to him and listens.
He says he doesn't think he can do it. That seems to be his most basic, deepest fear - inadequacy.
He doesn't think he knows anything about power, which is represented by both Nathan and Sylar.
And then of course there's the delightful link-up with S4 where Nathan turns into Sylar!

Contrast to Nathan's actual visit:
Almost no words and definitely no sympathy.
Peter shares. Nathan interrupts and disrespects him. Peter has to chase after him.
Nathan is insulting.

I see the dream as 'how Peter wants things to be' or maybe even a 'how Peter sees it'. Whereas the reality is how it really happens.

XXX

How does Sylar know that Noah is Claire's father?

I kept expecting Jessica to disappear as she was walking across that highway.

I notice Sylar's food tray includes a carton of whole milk. Ha.

Peter stops breathing in Nathan's arms. That's got to be hella scary.

Um, I don't think so. But between diet, sick, and ramped up exercise schedule for the last three weeks, I'm not ruling it out.

Oh, I see it now. You watched Fallout (the title of the post) and wrote Six Months Ago underneath. So that means I'm behind one ep.

I agree with you about the two Peter/Nathan/Sylar scenes.

I have no idea how Sylar knows Noah is Claire's father. It would make more sense after Sylar steals his wallet. Maybe Noah said something that Sylar overheard?

Claire handles the talk pretty well. I can't remember if she feels betrayed later or not. I think things would have gone better if Noah/Claire had included Sandra/Lyle (because they find out anyway and they feel betrayed - keeping secrets from everyone isn't healthy). Noah obviously trusts her to not freak out and to obey him - it's a big deal to him, I'm sure.

I still find it bizare that women statistically cheat more than men. By 4% or something.

"I drop everything and FIX IT. Isn't that HOW THINGS WORK?" How very…Sylar of him!

I love how it sounds like this…Synathan is protective - hugs, arm around Peter, telling him it's okay to stop and think a moment before jumping in, that not being a fighter is okay, that being a nurse is okay, etc. But it's also like a subconscious thing of Peter's possibly foretelling of Synathan/Nathan's death and his desire to tell Nathan the truth and talk honestly, about his fears, wanting encouragement.

Peter does a good job of not talking (at first). Six lawyers? I guess Nathan didn't believe Peter could keep quiet. Peter is super tense and/or nervous, either concerned for Claire or himself.

I noticed that! And then he just leaves the whole bottle there, so Peter can read off Matt's personal information from the label and take as many pills as he wants all at once. Plus, Matt of the terrible headache now doesn't have his pills!

I like how neither Claire nor Peter are ever asked, "Hey, how did Sylar actually kill Jackie? What kind of murder weapon are we looking for?" It's just kind of the whole point of an interrogation. I guess their stories are "I didn't see it happen."

I swear Audrey isn't wearing a bra.

I wonder where Jessica got all these killing and tracking skills. I mean, I know 'she/they' worked as some kind of killer-for-hire.

Yeah, it's very unexplained. It's like 'badass' is part of her ability.

I like the "chump versus love/making it work" conversation - quick, sweet, simple, memorable. And fairly true.

I like how many gestures and actions translate across different people with similar/exact abilities - Peter, Sylar, Samson, Arthur use the same gestures for TK; Hiro, Sylar, Isaac, Matt, Peter use the 'blink/close eyes' for painting the future.

I remember how totally shocked I was that the Haitian could speak! Either he's working for the Petrellis to maintain Claire's memories of her ability, or he has a conscience (but why pick Claire? I mean, I figure she would figure out her ability all over again even if he did wipe her mind. Why not have a conscience for everyone the Company tells him to assault?) I know he has a conscience, but as far as what it extends to is…well, it isn't explored or explained very well. He helps Claire on the down low, then tells Peter about Nathan's dead body.

A very good ep.

I don't see the Haitian's behavior making sense unless a person steps outside of canon and starts to fabricate something that forces it to make sense. He says at one point, canon, that he works for a higher power and this is strongly implied to be Angela Petrelli (and possibly by extension the Company Founders). Again, you have to start drawing in a lot of dots and connecting them to make a picture. That's where I worked out my theory of infighting between the founders, who controlled the Company, who ran it day-to-day, the different goals of different Company factions and backers, etc.

It may be that Rene is a deeply superstitious/religious man who sees abilities as a manifestation of the supernatural/spirit world. Perhaps his own ability to nullify powers makes him something of a demon in his own eyes. Or maybe an exalted, more favored, more special person, like an archangel. I would question how someone could retain a religious point of view regarding abilities when exposed to them in a scientific, utilitarian, Company environment every day, but lots of people in the real world maintain a deep and abiding religious faith while working as scientists or ... really, just about anything in our modern society. There's no shortage of reasons put forward in support of atheism and that undermine religion. But belief and faith are tricky things. They are explicitly based on a lack of evidence (which is why they are 'faith' and not 'fact'). So if people in the real world can hang onto their faith, then certainly I should grant Rene the same option. And honestly, with abilities being as inexplicable as they are, his faith has a lot more legs to stand on.

Why would he grant Claire an exemption? I'm not sure. Maybe he likes her. Maybe he's okay with using his ability on Noah's mundane family, but thinks it is a violation to use them on a family member who has an ability. Maybe Rene is aware that she can regenerate (likely) and knows that any attempt to wipe her memories would work short term at best. I think this one makes the most sense, but it falls down some when we realize Rene wiped Peter's memories with the stated intent of granting him a new life, freed from the problems of Peter's past/family.
